| Red
grape variety originally used in Bordeaux,
particularly in the right bank appellations of
Pomerol and St. Émilion. It typically makes a
medium to dark-coloured, medium to full-bodied
red wine with red berry, cherry and plum
flavours and often herbal, earthy, tobacco or
leather-like aromas and flavours. It is
considered softer than Cabernet Sauvignon, as it
often has less astringent tannins and lower
acidity, making it more immediately accessible,
though high quality versions are considered very
ageable. |
